Does bottled water contain chlorine?

Bottled water may contain chlorine.  Bottlers typically use ozone or ultraviolet light technologies to disinfect the water.  However, some companies may use chlorinated water from a public water system as source water for their facility.  Further treatment such as reverse osmosis or distillation may be applied to remove the residual taste or odor from chlorine before bottling.  To find out whether your bottled water contains chlorine, contact the bottler directly.  Information on bottled water disinfection practices is available from NSF International at www.nsf.org/consumer/bottled_water/bw_types.asp?program=BottledWat and from the International Bottled Water Association at www.bottledwater.org/public/BWFactsHome_main.htm.
