Why didn’t EPA initiate a regulatory revision for fluoride after the second Six-Year Review?

EPA determined that it was not appropriate to revise the standard at this time because EPA is developing a dose-response assessment (for noncancer impacts) and an assessment of the sources of exposure. These assessments are important for the evaluation of the current standard. Once the Agency completes and publishes peer reviewed versions of these in-process assessments, EPA will be able to determine whether a revision to the existing standard is appropriate.
